A Different Life

Have you ever wondered how it feels to live a different life? Have you ever done a job and then afterwards it felt like you were a different person while at the job? Like you were living a different life?
Have you ever thought what’s it like to be a bricklayer?

Well, let me tell you my experience!
My Dad, like I told you in one of my blogpost is a kingmaker in business and so on this day we’re installing a new shop! A container!
Everyone is excited and happy. In our excitement, we forgive my mum’s wake-up rhetorical question chi e fobe? and get up to help carry the heavy sides of the container.

Soon the day begins and it’s like I’m going to be helping out with the shop installation even though someone had been hired. I turn my cap backwards and get a bucket to the help fetch water to mix the cement.
So at this point, I’m making a shout out to the guy who does this duty in a construction site. You do quite some work there but they think you’re lazing because you’re not fetching sand like my cousin who was helping out too. I don’t know what he may have thought but anyways let’s move on.

The process of installation is quite thrilling. First we made a foundation for the shop and then we infixed them into the foundation. Next up we drilled a hole into them and screwed one side into another.
Soon it was standing and fit. It was time to cover the patches with mortar. That’s where my duty came in. The work got splited. The hired guys handled the inside, I handled the outside. I got my trowel, shovel and bucket of mortar and did my work.
I feel proud of myself 🤭😅

Truth is while doing this, it didn’t occur to me that I may have actually acted like a bricklayer unintentionally. For example, I walked upandown without a care that I was looking like a construction site labourer with my face cap still faced backwards. Sand and mortar were all over my white crocs and I don’t think it’d ever recover again.
When we wanted to take a break and my Dad had to attend to some You-go-wash-am-for-us visitors, I went up at once to go buy the beers for them; shamelessly carrying them without a bag, in my hands. A lady saw me while I returned. With the look on her face, she probably prayed her son don’t end up like me. For both sakes, I pray the same too😅
I also realized that my choice of drink was apt for a bricklayer to make. I mean why not take fearless energy drink to get a boost to do the work ahead?

Anyways, at the end of it, I realized that I may have actually seen a taste of a different life.
Now this entirely is not to beef people who do this as a means of income for living whether with passion or not. I may have just a faint idea of what’s going on your lives professionally but you bet I’d be willing to get my hands dirty to build again. Of course, for pleasure. It’s a shout out to you guys!

PS: That’s a picture of me beside my first design in print. I’m a graphic designer. I’m sorry I couldn’t get a picture to depict what I looked like on that day😅
